Theresa was born on February 20, 1939, in the living quarters of her parents grocery store to Katie Ozanich Modrcin, and George N. Modrcin, in Kansas City, Kansas. She was a lifelong area resident. Theresa was very proud of her Family and took great pride in her grandkids and great grandbabies. Also, she was proud of her Croatian and Slovenian heritage, being involved over her lifetime in many activities and events within the Slovenian and Croatian Communities of Strawberry Hill. Theresa loved people and being involved in anything that involved fun and food. Live life and love were her mantras, and she would often pass along those feelings to those she met.
Theresa met her husband, Charles Steele, at a new years eve party in 1959 at the Holy Family Catholic Church Social Club. They were later married at the Church of her baptism, Saint Johns Catholic Church on Strawberry Hill, March 3, 1962. Theresa graduated from Bishop Ward High School in the Class of 1957. Theresa went on to work at Deluxe Check Printers for many years, retiring as a master proofreader after twenty-five years at the Business.
After retirement, Theresa volunteered for the Strawberry Hill Museum as a cashier at the Museums Store and assisted with giving tours of the Museum itself. Additionally, she volunteered her time at Providence Medical Center for many years while at the same time enjoying precious time with her grandchildren, whom she loved so dearly.
Proceeding her in death were her husband, Charles E. Steele, her parents, George and Katie (Ozanic) Modrcin, two infant brothers, and brothers John A, Modrcin, George N. Modrcin Jr., and Joseph N. Modrcin, and sisters Bernice Resovich and Katherine B. Modrcin. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen M. Kump, husband Alexander, son Kevin M. Steele and his wife Jean, and a sister Loretta M. Modrcin, SCL; two brothers, Thomas F. Modrcin and Steven C. Modrcin. She was also blessed with seven grandchildren: Michael and Molly Steele; Geoffrey, Andrew, Audrey, Erich, and Charles Kump; and three great-grandchildren: Kyler Kump, Sophia Schmalz, and Colson Kump.
The Family wishes to thank the caregivers at Morningside Place, especially Selena, Irene, Chasity, and Keith, for all they did to help Mom and Cathy from Good Shepherd Hospice for their compassion and caring. All of us greatly appreciated it.
Moms strong Christian faith and unequivocal belief in family, and friends meant the world to her, not to mention a cup of coffee, her cats, and something sweet to snack on!
