Sophia Niemek Pozek of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away March 25th, 2024 at the age of 101. Sophia was born on March 19, 1923 in Kansas City, Kansas. She was the daughter of Polish immigrants, Mary L. Straub and George Niemek. She was married to Charles R. Pozek in May of 1946. He preceded her in death in 1998.
She received her LPN nursing license from the University of Kansas and worked in the Bethany Hospital nursery for 20 years. She enjoyed bingo, the casinos, sports betting and traveling with her husband.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church of Overland Park. Survivors include her sister, Teresa Mitchell, three sons, Rick (Kathy), Mike (Susan), Mark and grandsons Bret, John-Paul, Spencer, Archie and Jack. Her great grandchildren include Reed, Hannah, Byron, Charlotte, Eleanor, Charlie, and Gradey.
She is preceded in death by siblings Edward Niemek, Virginia Swofford, daughter Mary Lou Elbertson, son Robert Pozek and grandson Maxwell Pozek.
A private funeral service will be held with burial services at the Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum in Kansas City, Kansas. Memorials can be made to Catholic Charities.
