Robert E. Soptic, 81, passed away July 7, 2018 surrounded by his wife and three children. Visitation will be 9-10:30am Thursday at St. Agnes Church, 5250 Mission Road, Roeland Park, KS followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am.
Robert was born in the West Bottoms of Kansas City, Kansas to Ana (Car) Soptic. He was an admired teacher and counselor during his 40+ years in education.
He and his wife, Rosemary, were married in 1963 and have three children. Steven Soptic, Debra Zoellner (Greg), Karen Gahagan (Robert). Robert has seven grandchildren Nicholas Soptic; Nicole, Megan, and Kyle Zoellner; Lexi, Abby, and John Gahagan. Mr. Soptic is also survived by his sister Ann Roberts (Jim) and sister-in-law Zora Soptic, as well as many nephews, nieces, and his North American Croatian Relief family. Preceding him in death were his mother Ana Soptic (Car), Sisters: Mary Novosel (John), Bernice Favrow (Pete), and Dolores Bramlett (Henry), Brothers: Henry Soptic and Joseph Soptic.
Robert was the president of the North American Croatian Relief. This charitable organization was a passion of Roberts for many years. His other passion was working with his students at St. Joseph High School, Bishop Ward High School, Shawnee Mission East High School, Blue Valley High School, and Shawnee Mission North High School. Robert enjoyed volunteering at St. Agnes Church and substitute teaching at St. Agnes School where he entertained and educated students for many years. He served in numerous volunteer roles at St. Agnes as the parish community was very precious to him. Robert was an amazing father to his three children. Robert dearly loved his wife, Rosemary, for almost 55 years. They were the best of friends and shared a special love for one another. He also treasured his dogs, particularly his boxers. Of all the roles Robert had in life, being a grandpa to his seven grandchildren was his most cherished. He enjoyed every moment he spent with them and blessed their lives by sharing his stories, music, card playing, and wisdom with them. Above all, he put his faith and God first. Robert is now singing for Him in Heaven.
Roberts family suggests contributions to St. Agnes Catholic Church or Wayside Waifs animal shelter.
