Richard "Rick" Werp, 75, of Madison, Alabama, passed on June 16, 2024. Born in Kansas City, KS, on January 31, 1949, Rick was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed.
After graduating from the University of Kansas, Rick had a distinguished 34-year career at Boeing. He especially enjoyed working with the Boeing B-52 experimental flight and SAC flight crews, a high-powered UHF array for an Army threat simulator, and being the lead engineer for the International Space Station plasma interaction.
An avid cyclist, Rick could often be found exploring trails and enjoying the open road. His passion for cycling was matched by his love for cooking, always preparing fabulous meals to bring joy to gatherings.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Katherine Werp; siblings, Peter (Diane) Werp, Gerard Werp, and Thomas Werp; brother-in-law Marvin Timm; and sister-in-law Marcia Werp.
Rick's legacy lives on through his loving family and the countless memories they shared. He is survived by his daughter Kristin (Bryan) Chasteen; two grandchildren, Brayden and Madilyn Chasteen; siblings, JoAnn Timm, Charles (Marie) Werp, David Werp, Sandra (William) Kelly, Bonita (Jim) Cotter, Michael (Judy) Werp, and Linda (Roger) Goodrich; sisters-in-law, Sandra Werp and Mary Werp; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation to honor Rick's life will be held on Monday, June 24 at 3pm with a service following at 3:30pm at Skradski's Funeral Home, 340 N 6th St, Kansas City, KS 66101. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his memory, kindness, generosity, and zest for life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or Free Wheels for Kids KCK.
