Richard Cruz Ibarra Jr., age 59 (born April 27,1961) of Kansas City, MO, passed away February 16, 2021. Services will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at All Saints Catholic Church, Kansas City KS, with visitation at 12:00 noon followed by the Rosary at 1:30p. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00p and will be available via live stream.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Richard and Elia Ibarra. The family extends its heartfelt appreciation to the health care workers and staff, especially the ICU nurses, at St. Lukes North Hospital in Kansas City, MO for their compassionate care of Richard during his hospitalization. Richard would have been humbled by the outpouring of hope and prayers offered on his behalf as well as the support received by his family.
Richard is survived by his twin children, Gabriela and Richard Cruz III, his partner of 17 years, Leslie Stullken, and his brothers John (Mary) and Joseph (Margaret) Ibarra. He also leaves behind his beloved nieces and nephews, Ibarra and de la Garza cousins, the Stullken family, and countless friends and golf buddies.
Richard loved his extended family, but most cherished his role as father to his two children. He never ceased sharing stories about how proud he was of them to others and celebrated their many accomplishments. Richard looked forward to hearing about all that they would yet achieve, beginning with their graduations in May, Gabriela from Creighton University and Cruz from the Air Force Academy.
Richard was a graduate of Rockhurst College and worked as a project manager in various roles. He loved the challenges, the commitment to clients, strategizing, and managing multiple tasks. What he loved most about work was the relationships with clients and the everlasting friendships he made at each of his places of work. Richard was a lover of the arts, visiting art museums in various cities his work took him and holding a season membership to the Lyric Opera of Kansas City. He truly enjoyed sharing these experiences not only with his family but many other important people in his life.
Richard loved a variety of sporting events, but his passion was golf. He would play at any opportunity and most enjoyed spending this time in the company of his "golf buddies". Richard balanced his time amongst a variety of "golf groups" but, regardless of which group, he was at his happiest on the course with the boys!
Richard loved being a friend to countless people. He had a quick wit, dry sense of humor and knew how to laugh and have fun. In all aspects of his life, he went out of his way to create and hold an individualized connection with each person in his life. His kindness and charm will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Richards memory to All Saints Catholic Church to benefit a Catholic education scholarship fund in the name of his parents, Dr. Richard and Elia Ibarra.
