Pauline Kallaras/Kalich died peacefully at her home in Albuquerque, NM on January 13, 2018 at the age of 97.
Pauline is survived by two daughters, Janet Stuckey and husband, Philip of Granbury, Texas, and Carole Kalich of Albuquerque, NM. She is also survived by granddaughter, Gwen and her husband, Jason of Granbury, Texas. Pauline is preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Gust Kallaras and both siblings, Leona and George Kallaras of Kansas City, Kansas, her first husband, LaVerne Walker of WaKeeney, Kansas, and her second husband, Frank Kalich of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Pauline was born April 5, 1920 in Kansas City, Kansas. She graduated from Kansas University in 1942 with a bachelors degree in Education. While living and teaching in WaKeeney, Kansas, Pauline married LaVerne Walker, a substantial farmer from WaKeeney, Kansas, in 1945. Pauline lost her husband in May, 1947 due to a car accident and discovered that she was pregnant with Janet.
In 1950 Pauline married Frank Kalich, who lived and worked for the railroad in Kansas City, Kansas. Shortly after their marriage, Frank and Pauline moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where her second daughter, Carole was born. Four years later, Pauline enrolled at the University of NM, where she received her Masters of Science degree, and accepted a position as a mid-school counselor in Albuquerque. Pauline remained a counselor until she retired from Albuquerque Public Schools in 1981.
According to Paulines request, no funeral service will be given. However, her gravesite burial is scheduled on January 26, 2018, 1:00 pm at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 1150 N. 38th Street, Kansas City, KS. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your favorite charity.
