Mirko Vardijan Jr., 71, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away on July 23, 2026, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Born on August 31, 1954, in Žakanje, Croatia, Mirko lived a life defined by kindness, dedication, humor, generosity, and a deep love for animals. He was devoted to his family and friends and touched the lives of all who knew him. 

1Mirko worked as a machinist for 30 years and took great pride in his craft. He retired from Best Tool in 2013. Outside of work, he enjoyed spending time with family, caring for his beloved dogs, traveling, and never passing up an all-you-can-eat buffet. He will be especially remembered for his gentle heart, sharp sense of style, and warm personality. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruzica Vardijan; daughters Sandra Reid and her husband, Mike Reid, and Ana Schierbaum and her husband, D.L. Schierbaum; cherished grandchildren Dominic, Gavin, and Ryan; and siblings Ivan Vardijan, Frank Vardijan, and Georgia Lemanske. 

1He was preceded in death by his parents, Maria and Mirko Vardijan Sr., and his nephew, Ivan Michael Vardijan. A visitation will be held on July 29 at St. John Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice House in Olathe, Kansas. Though he will be deeply missed, Mirko's love, wisdom, and memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
