Michael Douglas Hoff

Michael Douglas Hoff, 52, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019 in his home. Visitation will be 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Sunday, January 27, 2019 at Skradski Funeral Home, 340 N. 6th St., Kansas City, KS. Graveside Service and military burial will be at Leavenworth National at 12:30 PM, Monday, January 28th 2019 in Leavenworth, KS for close family. Donations may be made to family to help with funeral costs. Michael was born April 5, 1966 to Douglas Hoff and Judith Englert in Chillicothe, MO. He grew up being a big brother to Candace Strauss, and Joe Escobedo. He was a friend, mentor and protector to his siblings. He attended Bishop Miege in high school. He loved his black 1971 Ford Mavrick that had fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror. He called it the "Bad Mav". He used to cruise Metcalf with his high school buddies. Later he joined the Marine Corp in 1984. After marrying his high school sweetheart, he helped welcome his son Derek Hoff on August 24th 1987 when stationed at Camp Pendelton. In celebration of his first born he had a celebratory smoke with Sargent Nelson on the beach at sunset. He traveled to Okinawa, Japan, and Venezuela while serving as a marine. In September of 1988 he was promoted to the rank of Corporal in the Marine Corps. Mike was always very proud to be a marine. In 1989 Mike was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps to join civilian life and continue his family. On October 16th 1992 he helped welcome his daughter Katherine Hoff into the world without forgetting to stop and get McDonalds that morning. Mike was employed by Unilever in Independence MO. He was proud to be what he called himself the "tea man". There he became a Union steward through the Teamsters Local Union No. 838. He was extremely proud of this roll. He enjoyed working on any type of automobile but favored his classic cars and hot rods. He rocked out to classic rock music after enjoying many concerts in his younger days. Mike was a diehard Chiefs fan. He left many words of wisdom behind including his daughters favorite "Its all about respect." His pride and joy were his 4 grandbabies. He was always eager to attend birthday parties, sports activities, and to spend time with them. Mike was full of love, jokes, stubbornness, and loyalty. He is survived by his son Derek Hoff, daughter in law Cami Hoff and daughter, Katherine Hoff. His pride and joy grandchildren Ethan and Ella Hoff and Uriah and Adalyn Larson. Along with sister Candace Strauss, brother in law Troy Strauss, brother, Joe Escobedo and mother, Judith Gillham.
