Mary Helen Garcia

Mary Helen (Macias) Garcia, 80 of Orland Park, Illinois passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017, at Palos Hospital in Chicago. She was born May 22, 1937 in Kansas City, Kansas to Thomas and Josephine (Montes) Macias Sr. She worked at Lucys Luggage and Bethany Hospital for a number of years. She enjoyed the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary loved the arts and was awarded for her art. She was known for naming each vehicle owned, thrift store shopping and her love for playing Bingo.
Surviving are daughter, Phyllis (Steven) Hernandez of Kansas City, KS, son, Christopher (Sonia) Salmeron of Orland Park, IL, brothers; Thomas Macias, Jr., of Kansas City, KS, Frank & Connie Macias of Independence , MO, Bobbie & Margaret Macias of Overland Park, KS, Carlos & Millie Macias of Kansas City, KS, Paul & Martina Macias of Grandview, MO and Mark Macias of Harrisonville, MO, sister, Mary Dolores & Eddie Seyedi of Lenexa, KS. Grandchildren, Crystal Salmeron, Marlena (Khan) Hernandez-Phiakeo, and Julio (Lydia) Hernandez and great grandchildren Marek and Lennon Cadena, Ceil and Kai Phiakeo and Benjamin Hernandez. Along with many more friends and family.
Preceding her were her parents, sisters; Rosie (Tony) Lopez, Anita Macias, Caroline Galvan and Joyce Macias, great grandchild, Steven Castleberry Hernandez, nephews; Michael, Paul, and Miguel Macias and David Heany.
The family will receive friends from 2:00PM to 6:00PM on Sunday, December 3, 2017, with rosary being prayed at 3:30PM at Skradski Funeral Home, 340 North 6th Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, December 4, 2017, 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 708 N. 4th, Kansas City, Kansas. Burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas.
