Mary 'Brucie' Mikesic

Mary Bruce "Brucie" Mikesic, 79 of Kansas City, Kansas passed away peacefully June 20, 2021 at Providence Medical Center. She was surrounded by her children and their spouses.Brucie was born on Saint Patricks Day in 1942 in Atchison, Kansas. She got her BSN in Nursing and soon after met the love of her life, Tony Mikesic Jr, at a classmates Croatian wedding reception she attended with friends. They married three months later on February 8, 1964 and together raised a sensational family. She loved to brag about having four kids in four years. She spent many years caring for patients at the "old Providence Hospital." While raising a family, Brucie followed her passion for learning and mental health and obtained her masters degree in Psychology. She loved working with clients at Wyandotte Mental Health Center and Rainbow Mental Health Facility.Brucie was very proud of her education, and even after many years of retirement was sure to inform caregivers that she had been a nurse for 35 years. She was very outspoken about... well, everything. But to know her was to love her. She was HILARIOUS! If youve ever been to one of the wedding receptions where she did her "scarf dance", you know. She loooovvved the color purple. Often times, she was known to sprinkle cuss words like glitter, especially while watching Chiefs football or KU basketball games. She was intrigued by crime shows and Lifetime Television.Brucie was married to Anthony M "Tony" Mikesic Jr, for 35 years before he tragically preceded her in death. Her parents, Milo B and Jane H Gillespie of Atchison, Kansas also passed before her.Brucie is survived and will be terribly missed by her daughter Michelle, sons Michael B.(Gretchen), Patrick (EJ), and Mark. Grandchildren: Malorie, Jacob, Asher, Matthew, Mandi, Joseph, and Tana. Great-grandson: Blackie. Sister, Elizabeth J Ferrell (James).

The Visitation for Brucie will be Friday, June 25th at 11:00AM to 1:00PM at Skradski Funeral Home, 340 N. 6th, Kansas City, Kansas. Burial following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Kansas City, Kansas.
