Loretta Ann Gorman

August 17, 1935 — March 21, 2016

Loretta A. Gorman, 80, quietly and peacefully went home to be with the Lord on March 21, 2016. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 23 at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, 4101 E. 105th Terr., Kansas City, MO 64137, with entombment following in Holy Redeemer Mausoleum at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Loretta was born August 17, 1935 in Kansas City, KS to Matthew and Mary (Mufich) Stojkovich. Loretta was joined in marriage to Joseph A. Gorman, Sr. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Strawberry Hill in Kansas City, KS August 23, 1952. They moved to Kansas City, MO where Loretta was a stay-at-home mother, and raised five children.
Lorettas life revolved around her family. After her mother and older brother, Eddie, passed away, Lorettas two brothers with special needs moved in with her and her family where she took care of them.
Loretta looked forward to Sundays, when her family would gather for Sunday dinners. Famous for her homemade fried chicken, sarma, and spaghetti with homemade meatballs, no one ever left her house hungry. Loretta would start her Sunday meals early in the day, cook all day long, and made enough to feed a dozen armies. During the holidays you would be able to find Loretta in the kitchen, dough spread thin across the kitchen table as she made the most amazing apple strudel. After the meals were finished and everyone began to leave, it would take an hour to say goodbye because Loretta made sure no one left hungry and no one left without taking leftovers home with them. During the week, you could find Loretta in the kitchen watching her "shows", or gossiping on the phone with her long-time friend, Phyllis Kennedy.
Loretta was proceeded in death by her beloved husband Joe of 58 years, her parents, her brothers Eddie, Bernie, and Sonny. She leaves behind five children Joseph A. Gorman, Jr (Lesa), Sue Tischer (Jeff), Rose Durbin (Doug), Cathy Cushing (Steve), and Mark "Cinco" Gorman (Kim); nine grandchildren, Mendy Shaw, Delon Gorman (Stephanie), Jennifer "Jib" Tischer, Jason Tischer (Jenna), Samantha Smith (Griffin), Garrett Durbin, Zachary Gorman, Stephen Cushing, and Grant Cushing; 13 great-grandchildren, and her long-time neighbor and best friend, Phyllis Kennedy.
Pops is reunited with his cupie doll now. We are certain there is a kitchen in heaven, and mom is there now, making a pot of fresh sweet tea and frying up the biggest batch of the best fried chicken, Spanish rice, and green beans for her loved ones already in heaven. Mom is free from pain and her wheelchair, and as the sun is shining down from heaven, we know she is happy to be with Pops as they watch over the family they loved more than anything in this world.
