Lawrence M. Marcel

January 7, 1956 — December 27, 2022

Lawrence Michael “Larry Mike” Marcel passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, December 27th 2022, at the age of 66.

Larry-Mike was born on January 7th, 1956 in Kansas City, KS. He graduated from Wyandotte High School and from there went on to become a well respected driver for the Kansas City KS Fire Department for 32 years. He also raised 4 children and was a devoted “Popa” of 13 grand children, and 1 great-grandchild.

Larry-Mike had a passion with cars as a child. His passion varied from detailed work on the exterior of the car, to perfecting the roaring sounds of the engine, and of course being behind the wheel and giving that roaring engine everything it had. From the young age of 18, he bought a 1972 Z28 Camaro and maintained for 48 years, which drove his passion for cars. (Important to note that he had a record 52-1 racing this car and the one loss can be debated!) Larry-Mike was a true gear head. His passion of engines is what led him to his career as a driver for the fire department, but it was his hard work, compassion and dedication that led him to be well respected by his fellow fire friends. However, firetrucks were not the only motor vehicle that fueled his fire. Larry was also the President and founder of the Midwest Lawn Mower Racing Association, where he used his mastered skills to not only build and work on the mowers, but also to race them. Larry Mike’s life-long hobby led him to be a part-time mechanic working on both mowers and cars for friends and family. This truly made him happy. Fishing with his grandkids and his brother whenever he had the chance was his other favorite hobby. Being able to take the grandkids camping and explore the outdoors with his family was a very important passion of his. He was cherished by everyone who shared these moments with him. Larry-Mike also loved spending time with his dog Aerial, who was named after his favorite model of fire truck he use to drive.

Larry-Mike was preceded by his father Lawrence George Marcel.

Survived by his mother Barbara (Marie) Marcel. Spouse, Karen Piper of 31 years. Two brothers, Steve (Donna) Marcel and David Marcel. Two sisters, Tina (John) Bradley and Patricia MacDonald. Four daughters, Stacy (John) Hayes, Ann Marcel, Angela Marcel, and Amy (Jennifer) Marcel. 13 grand children, Mikayla, Jordan, James, Andrew, Lillian, Gabby, Lizzy, Ash, Jillian, Jullian, Jaden, Evan, and Ellianna. One great-grandchild, Weston. Two step children and their family. Nick, (Emily), and Maddy. Miles, (Tara) and Collin. Aunt Joyce Orendac and Uncle Ray Orendac. Also, several nieces and nephews who were all very special to him.

A special thanks to the devoted caregivers for their love and care they gave: Amy & Jennifer Marcel and Steve & Donna Marcel.

Also a special thank you to Karen Piper, Harold Wilcox and Gena Torset for all the extra support they offered.
