Janet A. Tluscik, 90, of Shawnee, KS passed away, Monday, July 21st, surrounded by her family. Memorial Contributions may be given to IAFF, Local 64. Janet was born, July 23, 1934, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Purduski) Thomas, in Kansas City, KS. She attended St. Anthony’ Catholic Grade School and graduated from Bishop Ward High School in 1953. She married Joseph C. Tluscik in the summer of 1956 and they had four children together. Janet worked at Donnelly College, Commerce Bank and ERC as an administrative assistant, retiring in 1997. After her retirement, Janet volunteered at Advent Hospital and Kansas Speedway giving pit tours. Mom’s most important role was that of Grandma and Great-Grandma. Anyone of her Grands as she called them or Greats always got a prize, which usually consisted of Russell Stover’s candy or cookies. Her best talent was in the kitchen making home-made Povitica bread along with home-made strudels. Her culinary talents were unmatched. Her Povitica bread was made for every family holiday, baptism, weddings, and coronations too. She owned a bakery back in the day, Old Country Bakery. She was preceded in death by her son Michael J. Tluscik, Sr. (2007) and her daughter Mary E. Mears (2012). She is survived by her two children, David A. Tluscik, Helen A. Tluscik, son in law Dr. Mark Mears (Cindy) & grandchildren Stephanie (Matt) Grado, Michael J. Tluscik, Jr, Kinsley (Tim) Walla, Holly (Chad) Shore, Cassidy (Nikki) Mears and Madison (Sean) McNally. Great grandchildren, Ava, Carter, Michael J. Tluscik, III, Emma, Madelyn, Jack and Landrie & her sister, Mary Ann Thomas. The family would like to thank the following caregivers, Sarah Crutchfield from Concierge Care, the relentless staff at Advent Hospital & son-in-law, for his up above and beyond, Dr. Mark Mears. They provided care and compassion in her final months.
