Jane Marnett

April 24, 1927 — February 10, 2015

JANE FRANCES MARNETT 1927 - 2015 On the Feast of Saint Scholastica, Feb. 10, 2015, Jane Marnett, 87, passed away peacefully at Kansas City Hospice House due to complications brought on by ovarian cancer. At the time of passing family members were at her side providing comfort and support. Jane was born April 24, 1927 in Kansas City, KS. She was the fifth of seven children born into the family of Joseph & Magdalen Marnett. Jane grew up in the Kansas City area and attended St. Anthony grade school and was a 1944 graduate of Bishop Ward High School. She went on to further her education at Mount Saint Scholastica College in Atchison, KS where she earned her BA and then to Creighton University where she earned her master's degree in education. Jane soon found herself in Jacksonville, FL where she resided for over 40 years, and was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She was blessed being able to spend the next 37 years doing what she truly loved; educating the young men and women of Bishop Kenny High School, the last 10 years she served as the school principal and board member, and later retired in 2002. After retirement Jane continued to sit on the school board until 2013. It was at Bishop Kenny that Jane developed so many dear and lifelong friends, both colleagues and former students; Joe & Donna Pichardo, Maria & John Randle, Fr. Michael Houle, Frances Conroy, Joe McCoy, David & Denise Oliveria, and countless others who brought her great joy throughout her life. Outside of the halls of Bishop Kenny Jane had a passion for two things; reading her newest personalized autographed copy of a John Grisham novel, and her other passion was sports; mostly football, baseball, and college basketball. She would spend countless hours following teams and her favorite players. If Jane were starting life today, she would make a great play- by- play announcer due to her ability to follow a game and tell a story without missing a single detail. Preceding Jane in death are her parents, her brothers Lawrence, John, and Paul and her one sister Rosemary (Sr. Mary Timothy O.S.B.) Surviving her is her eldest brother, Joseph, Jr. and his wife Mary; her youngest brother Walter and his wife Shirley; and countless nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at KU Hospital and the KU Cancer Center; especially Dr. Gary Johnson and his staff for wonderful and compassionate care given to our beloved Jane. Visitation will be 9 to 10 AM, Fri., February 13th at St. Mary / St. Anthony Catholic Church followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 AM. Burial immediately following at Mt. Calvary Cemetery K.C., KS.
