Born on January 4th, 1934, to Kenneth Brown and Violet (Bolen) Brown at the home in Miami County, Kansas. James (Jim) passed away peacefully on March 17th, 2026, in Kansas City, Kansas with his wife of 73 years by his side.
James married Teresa (Franchett) Brown on August 17th, 1953. He was the proud father of six children.
Jim worked for the Kansas City Star as a Pressman for 20 years. He worked in CB Radio repair for a while. Then he went on to be a Supervisor in Electronics at I.D.I. for 10 years in Kansas City, Kansas. After that he went on to a new career at Kansas City Kansas District 500 as a School Bus Driver where he finally retired.
Jim was actively involved in sports. He golfed with friends from work then also as a wonderful and successful Girls Softball Manager. He managed every summer for about 16 yrs. Mostly keeping the same girls on the team for years throughout, including his daughter Karen. Then later his niece Pam with his brother Ronnie as coach, winning many trophies, including going to the Girls Softball Nationals and helping young girls build character along the way. He was a true Gentle Giant.
He was the Best Son, Brother, Husband, Father and Grandfather, He will be missed so much by all of his large family and many friends. Near and far!
James L. Brown was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Brown and mother Violet Brown, his brothers Frank Brown, Ronald Brown & Virgil Brown. His sons James L. Brown Jr. (Jimmy) & William Brown (Billy). His grandson Michael Tetum II, great grandson Phillip Brown and great great grandson Ezekia Logan. His brother in laws Eugene (Joyce) Franchett, Phillip Franchett, Paul Franchett, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary & Richard McGinnis. His son in laws Brian Logan and Thomas G. Joyce Jr. and his daughter in Law Vickie Brown.
James is survived by his wife Teresa Brown of Kansas City, Kansas. His surviving children David (Cheryl) Brown Lee’s Summit Mo., Karen (John) Reek Mound City, Ks., Christina Logan-Joyce Oak Grove, Mo. and Paul (Diana) Brown Springfield Mo. His brother Charles (Nancy) Brown Basehor, Ks., his sister Rose (Jim) Bennink Lowry City, Mo., sister in laws Frances Brown Bonner Springs Ks. Ellen Brown Lenexa, Ks., sister Kay Franchett Leavenworth, Ks., Marcia Franchett Shawnee Ks. and Gladys Franchett Bandera, Tx. He is also survived by 18 Grandchildren, 37 Great Grandchildren, and 4 Great Great Grandchildren. And many numerous nieces and nephews.
James was The Quiet Man for Sure. But he had so much Love for Everyone. His Family will miss him Dearly. And We want to Thank Him for raising us his Children with a Loving Spiritual Belief in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. We will see him again one day in Heaven as The Bright Light he is!
Services will be March 27th, 2026, at Christ the King Church 3024 N. 53rd Street, Kansas City, Ks. Visitation at 9:30am, Rosary will said at 10:00am with Funeral at 10:30am.
Reception to follow at the church until 1:00pm. Followed with Family Procession for Burial in Fontana Ks.
