Helen who was lovingly referred to as "Bubbie" or "Bub" by her family and friends was born September 28 ,1937. Bub was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Frank Feden, her only sister Shirley Bellmyer nee Supica and her middle daughter Lori Radcliff.
Bub is survived by her two daughters Lisa Feden Gribble (Andy) and Lynne Marie Braun (Richard); six grandchildren and three great grandchildren; Jordan Helen Beeves (Matthew and only great granddaughter Chelsea Helen Beeves), Michael Alden Radcliff (Michael Radcliff and John Radcliff), Andrew Woodford Gribble IV, Alexandra Helen Braun, Holly Sondra Radcliff, and Danielle Kathleen Braun. She also leaves behind many other family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Bub always had an eye for art. She was blessed to be gifted with artistic abilities that were far superior to anyone else in the family. Even though painting and drawing gave her great pleasure Bub found her true calling by working in Sales. She spent her working years building her career at AT&T. Starting out as a humble sales representative, Bub was promoted to management in just four years.
She spent the next 30 years training, supervising and promoting some of the best and brightest at AT&T. With that she accumulated some great experiences. If you had an outrageous work story to share with Bub odds were that she had one that could beat it. Bub achieved many accolades in her time spent working, too numerous to count. After she retired from AT&T, she opened her own consulting firm and developed a telemarketing manual. For the next several years, Bub went on to hold trainings far and wide, the farthest being in Australia.
To most, Bub was known as an "energizer bunny". Retirement did not slow her down. In retirement Bub spent her time volunteering for several organizations. Most notably her church, St. George.
Bubs life was defined by her dedication to her church which she served in almost every capacity available except for groundskeeping, and even that is debatable. A few notable roles Bub held over the years is as follows: Church School Superintendent, Church School Teacher, EOYC President and Counselor for many years, President of Svetka Petka, and SOTAYA organizer. However, Bubs most prominent role at St. George was as the first female Church President. In fact, Bub was so well liked as Church President that she had to lobby to change the bylaws to set term limits, so that someone else could be voted in as President. She wholeheartedly believed "new blood" was necessary for all organizations. It was while serving as President that our Bubbie, along with other dedicated parishioners, set in motion the plan that would take us to where our beautiful Church and hall now sits in Lenexa, Kansas. It was her faith, vision and strong commitment to the growth of our congregation that led us to where we are today.
Bub, along with many other prominent women of St. George, founded our annual church Bazaar. For years she worked alongside these and other remarkable women of St. George to bake strudels, povaticas, pogachas and babkas in addition to creating wonderful displays such as the Christmas booth, religious display and lots of handmade Ethnic items. This tradition continues as Bubs oldest granddaughter is currently in charge of strudels. Later, Bub went on to volunteer at St. Marys of Egypt which is another Orthodox Church in Kansas City, Missouri whose mission is to help the people in the inner city. Bub and her best church friend Honey Helen Gurba spent many wonderful years working and preparing Friday night meals for St. Marys. Bubbie and Honey were casserole making machines. It was at St. Marys that Bub became close with Mother Johana (Nicole) and Father Alexi. In recent years, Bub spent some time visiting Mother Johanna and Father Alexi at their new monastery. She was particularly fond of Mothers abundant garden and grape vines.
Even with expending so much energy on her volunteer work, Bubs greatest pleasure in life was spending time and energy on her family. Bub was the matriarch we all looked up to for so many things. Bub thoroughly enjoyed travelling and vacationing with her family. From cross country choir trips taken via bus to hours spent crammed in the back of a van watching Disney movies with her grandkids. Traveling was Bubs greatest joy. She loved her yearly family vacations to visit her Boo in Florida. Even at 78, Bubbie was a trooper. Walking miles and miles through Harry Potter world and enjoying just a taste of Butter Beer. Every year, Bub and her granddaughters engaged in their annual tradition of attending the Nutcracker and Christmas Carol, along with enjoying theatre productions like Hamilton (which she couldnt wait to see.) Dying Easter eggs started back when her granddaughters were young and was just one example of the many, many things she did with her family. For some reason, Bub always had to do extra cartons of eggs which meant we always ended up with at least 12 dozen to donate to Church! In February, with the birth of her first great granddaughter Chelsea, Bub was given the new title "Grubbie" or "Great Bubbie" because the title Bubbie was taken over by Chelseas grandmother. Bub was so proud of the family she created. But she was especially proud of the fact that her family follows her example when it comes to the Orthodox religion and volunteering. She believed wholeheartedly that God is the way and he will provide whatever one might need. She was a good and faithful servant to the end. With very heavy hearts we will continue on and keep working tirelessly to fill the big shoes she has left here on Earth. And even though she is no longer with us, we believe she is with God and her beloved Frankie.
Arrangements for Helens funeral are being handled by Skradski Funeral Home. Helens family is asking that in lieu of flowers to please make a monetary donation to St. George Serbian Orthodox Church Memorial Fund.
