November 18, 1932 – January 20, 2026
Harold Donald Hackney, 93, of Kansas City, KS passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20th, 2026. He was born in Saddle, Arkansas. He was the oldest of his 4 sisters and 2 brothers. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines in January 1951.He fought in the Korean War and earned a Purple Heart for being hit with a shell fragment in March 1953. He also earned the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal w/5 Stars, and the United Nations Service Medal. After fighting for nearly 2 years in Korea he came home but eventually re-enlisted as he was proud to be a Marine. He later moved to Kansas City where he met and married his wife, Lucie (Rankin) Hackney, of 61 years. He retired from General Motors Corporation in Kansas City, KS.
Harold was very proud of his commitment to his country. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family and going on vacation nearly every year. He was a member of the Abdallah Shriners, Freemasons, and Scottish Rite. Harold is survived by his children, Tammie Arrieta, Darren Hackney, Travis Hackney, Donald Hackney, 8 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Zelma Gregory, Kay Carpenter, Sue Taylor, 2 brothers, Darrell Hackney and Cleo Hackney.
Harold is preceded in death by his wife Lucie Hackney, his sister Darlene Jackson, and parents Floyd and Beulah(Phelps) Hackney. Visitation will be Wednesday January 28th at 10:30am to 11:30am, Service 11:30am to 12:30pm at Skradski Funeral Home in Kansas City, KS with Chaplain Ryan Murray. Interment will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery at 1:30pm with Military Honors. Pallbearers are Christopher Arrieta, Cameron Hackney, Dylan Alexander, Cleo Hackney, Donald Hackney, and Darren Hackney. Please consider donations to organizations that help with management of PTSD with our military veterans or St. Jude Childrens Hospital in lieu of flowers.
