Gerald 'Jerry' E. Fabac

July 7, 1937 — February 3, 2022

Gerald E. "Jerry" Fabac, 84, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2022. Funeral Services are Saturday, February 12, beginning with Visitation at 9:00AM to 11:00AM, Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 708 N. 4th, Kansas City, Kansas. Memorials may be made to St. Johns or the Sister Servants of Mary.
Jerry was born July 7, 1937, in Kansas City, Kansas to Matthew and Mary (Ropar) Fabac. He was the baby of the family, having been born many years later than his beloved siblings, Ann, Nick, Steve and Eddie. Jerry lost both of his parents at an early age and his sister and brothers loved and cared for him.
Jerry was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Strawberry Hill in Kansas City, Kansas. It was there he married his love, Patricia Thompson, on May 6, 1961. He was also a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Club and could be found each year selling salami raffle tickets at the parish festival. Saturdays for Jerry and his wife Pat meant loading up the station wagon for a day of CYO sports. They went from game to game and loved every minute of it. Jerry loved dogs and owned many in his lifetime. Chances are, if you saw Jerry, you saw him with one of his dogs. Jerry was a veteran who proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Randolph. He watched the Army-Navy football game each year and cheered for the Midshipmen.
Jerry was employed by the Mode ODay Company in Kansas City, Missouri, for many years. He later owned and operated Sammys Tavern in Kansas City, Kansas, until his retirement. His brother, Edward "Sam" Fabac, ran the tavern from 1951 prior to Jerry taking the reins in 1984. Sammys was a family business where he made and enjoyed countless lasting friendships with his patrons.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Patricia in 1992, his parents, and all of his siblings. He is survived by his four children who meant the world to him, Michael Fabac and wife Lanette; Patricia Verbeck and husband Jerry, Matthew Fabac and Daniel Fabac and wife Julie. Jerry also leaves behind five grandchildren he was extremely proud of, Ryan Fabac, Amy Fabac, Justin Fabac, Nicholas Verbeck and Michael Verbeck.
