Franklin Donald Tomc

March 27, 1940 — February 17, 2024

Franklin D. Tomc (83) of Strawberry Hill, Shawnee, and Olathe, Kansas passed away February 17, 2024. Frank was born on March 27, 1940, in Kansas City, KS, the son of Frank Tomc and Johanna Anzek. He received his education at Holy Family Catholic School, De La Salle Academy, and Donnelly College. In 1961, Frank joined the United States Navy and was stationed in Hawaii at Pearl Harbor. He sailed the South Pacific until 1966 when he was honorably discharged. Frank returned home to Kansas City, KS and began his 32-year career at Proctor & Gamble. In June of 1968, Frank married his true sweetheart, Carol Hagemeier.

Frank had fond memories growing up on Strawberry Hill, spending time with Papa Anzek, and playing football at De La Salle where he made lifelong friends. He was always up for a night out at Sammy’s whether he was bartending or having drinks where he earned the nickname “Pretty Eyes.” Frank loved trips to the Ozarks with his sister Joann and the Woerendle family, Thanksgivings with his sister Barbara and the Hotujac family, cruises with his sister Sandy and brother-in-law Mike, bringing an ice cold watermelon to Anzek family reunions, Old Soapers’ breakfasts, lunch at Breit's with the guys, snow skiing, fishing, golfing, and Jayhawk basketball. But most of all, Frank was a devoted father to Kristin, Carla, and Matt. He always put his children first and was truly selfless. One of his proudest moments was when he rose to the rank of grandpa to Kate, Hank, Grace, Will, Ella, Charlie, and Hanna who called him “G-Pa.” Frank was a devout catholic and a member of Holy Family, St. Ann’s, St. Joseph and Holy Spirit Catholic churches. He spent many hours volunteering at St. Joseph grade school recesses ref’ing kickball, pushing swings and the merry-go-round “reeeally fast” as the kids would say. He also spent many hours as a volunteer for the Kansas City Ski Club where he was Trip Captain extraordinaire planning ski trips to the Rocky Mountains.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Johanna, stepfather Boyd, wife Carol, and sister Barbara Hotujac.

Frank is survived by daughters Kristin Himmelberg (Patrick), Carla Coleman (Ryan), son Matt (Carrie), sisters Joann Woerndle (Rich), Sandy Mihelic, seven grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends.
