Eugene James Ashley was born July 18, 1929 in Kansas City, Kansas to Eugene and Ann (Lobeck) Ashley. He attended all eight years at St. Casimir, a Lithuanian Elementary School, taught by Lithuanian Nuns. Eugene married his high school sweetheart Donna Ann Hains in 1950. They became the proud parents of three children, Mark, Madonna and Phillip. He graduated from Donnelly College in 1960, and was President of the Donnelly College Alumni Association during the Vietnam War, also spent two years at Rockhurst University doing specialized studies and was also a graduate of Dale Carnegie. Eugenes first regular job was a bookkeeper and teller at Security National Bank, then for sixteen years as a laboratory technician for Phillips Petroleum Company after that he moved on to Central Chemical Company for over eleven years, resigning from there as assistant vice president in 1977. Eugene was employed at Thompson-Hayward Company and was in charge of two manufacturing units. In 1980 Eugene joined Cereal Food Processors as a Health Inspector for all their plants in the U. S. His work life finished as a part time employee in customer relations at the Kansas City Museum for six years. His outside activities included: President of Wyandot Swim Club, President of the Lithuanians of America, President of the Local Chapter of the Knights of Lithuania, and was a Trustee on the National Board of Directors of the Knights of Lithuania for two years also serving nine years as a Trustee for the Wyandotte County Historical Society and Museum. Eugene attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Strawberry Hill for most of his life and was President of the Mens Catholic Club for two years. Eugene and wife, Donna enjoyed dancing, and for many years belonged to folk dance groups that performed in several states, Canada and Europe. Surviving Eugene are his wife Donna, sons: Mark (Sandy) and Phillip (Beth) and daughter, Madonna (Mark) Muder, Seven Grandchildren and Eight Great Grandchildren. A Visitation will be Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 1-2 PM with a Memorial Mass at 2:00 PM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 708 N. 4th, KCKS. Cards may be sent to Donna at the Riverbend Nursing Facility, 7850 Freeman, KCK, 66112.
