Esther Solis, 96, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away peacefully at home Sunday, December 28, 2025. Esther was born on February 11, 1929, in Chanute, Kansas to Heriberto and Catalina (Gutierrez) Ysusi. She grew up in Chanute, where she attended school and worked as a cashier at Kress Department Store. On May 3, 1968, Esther married Francisco Solis. Together they settled in Kansas City, Kansas and raised their family. Along with caring for her own children, Esther also provided before and after school care for many children in the neighborhood. She enjoyed being a part of these children’s lives. Esther was a member of the Cathedral of Saint Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Esther had profound faith in God and carried that same devotion for her family and friends. Esther was full of life and laughter, especially with her children and grandchildren. She was proud of her Mexican American heritage. She loved listening and dancing to Mexican music, cooking for her family, and bringing her family together with her homemade flour tortillas, enchiladas, and sopa de arozz. Esther’s welcoming big smile would light up any room. She will forever shine brightly in our hearts. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, husband Francisco, brothers Joseph and Fred Ysusi, sisters Josephine Sanchez and Rebecca Mendoza and stepsister Vicky Hernandez. She is survived by her children Francisco Solis Jr., Frances (John) Tady, Felicia Miskec, and Cecilia (Kai) Thomas; 9 Grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; brothers Trine, Louis and Phillip Ysusi and stepbrother Ed Godinez and stepsisters Genevieve Wiggins and Linda Hernandez; along with many cherished nephews, nieces, and friends. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Thursday, January 8, 2026, at the Cathedral of Saint Peter the Apostle, 419 N 14th Street, Kansas City, Kansas, with Rosary at 6:30 pm. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am, Friday, January 9, 2026, at the Cathedral of Saint Peter the Apostle. Burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 12600 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas.
