Eleanor Modrcin

Eleanor Modrcin died June 1, 2023, at St. Joseph Place in Overland Park, Kansas.  She was 93 years old.

She was the youngest of 10 children born to Francis J. and Anna Spehar Novak.  Eleanor attended St. Peter’s Cathedral Grade School, Wyandotte High School, and Kansas City Kansas Community College.

In 1952 she married William “Willie” Modrcin, the head football coach at Bishop Ward High School.  They had one son, Bill Modrcin, Jr.  After serving as a homemaker and cub scout den leader, she went back to work as a secretary for the Providence Hospital Administrator and the Call to Share campaign, among others.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and its altar society.

She was predeceased by her husband, her parents and her nine siblings, George, John, Mary, Frank, Ed, Willie, Al, Velma Blaschke and Emilie Verbeck.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Diane Ordway Thompson, grandsons Mark (Laura) and Matt, beloved great-granddaughter Margot Modrcin, and many nieces and nephews.
