Edward Pestock

August 25, 1929 — October 9, 2023

Edward 'Ed' Pestock, 94, of Kansas City, Kansas, died on October 9th, 2023.

Ed was born in KCK on August 25,1929 to Thomas and Kate Pestock.  Ed was the youngest of 10 children.  He married the love of his life, Betty Lou on Oct. 16, 1948 and together they enjoyed family, fishing, golf and square dancing until her death in 2000.  Ed joined the KCK Fire Department in 1956 where he proudly worked until his retirement in 1980.  Ed stated many times that there was never a day that he didn’t want to go to work and often spoke fondly of his fellow firefighters.

Edward, Ed, Dad, Papa, Grandpa was loved by all that knew him.  Whether he was golfing, playing cards, domino’s or spending time with his family, he was always the life of the party!  Ed was a jokester.  While he was serious about his golf score, it didn’t stop him from placing an exploding golf ball, sneaking a club out of his brother’s bag  or coughing at just the moment of your swing!  He loved offering a piece of candy to one of his grandkids then promptly putting it in his own mouth with a smile and you could be sure the wrapper was going to end up in someone’s hair or hoodie. Papa loved to dance and sing with his grandkids, “You get a line, I’ll get a pole” put smiles on their faces for sure.  His jovial personality was contagious and will leave a void, but fortunately he passed that ornery gene on to more than a few of his grands.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife Betty (Laird) Pestock, 9 siblings; Anna, Rose, Mike, John, Joe, Bertha, Charlie, George and Frank, and son-in-law John Mitchell.

He is survived by his children, David E. Pestock (Deanna), Kathy L. Vest (Gary) and Pamela S. Mitchell,  6 grandchildren, Gary Lynn, Sundie (Tad), David Jr. (Angela), Robert, Candice (Kurt) and John (Paula), 15 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Roberta Laird and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Brighton Hospice and the caring team that helped Ed to pass peacefully at home as he chose.
