Edward 'Oscar' Zurga

Edward J. "Oscar" Zurga, Sr., 90, passed away on December 31, 2019, with his family by his side. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at Skradski Funeral Home, 340 N. 6th St., Kansas City, KS, where the rosary will be prayed at 6:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial is Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at 9:30am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 708 N. 4th St., Kansas City, KS. Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Childrens Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri.
Oscar was born February 11, 1929, in Kansas City, KS, to Matt and Anna (Krulich) Zurga. He was a Wyandotte High School graduate and served as an Aviation Machinist during the Korean War. After 30 years of service, he retired from the KCK Police Department as a Lieutenant. Oscar was the first bartender at Sammys on Strawberry Hill, also a cook and bartender at the St. Johns Catholic Club. An original KC Chiefs tickets holder for nearly 50 years, he was an avid sports fan. His hobbies included growing vegetable, fruit and flower gardens, grilling and barbequing, golfing, bowling, fishing and hunting. Oscar was an avid traveler visiting Canada, the Colorado mountains, the United Kingdom and Europe, including Croatia. One of his most cherished travel experiences was visiting the beaches of Normandy. Oscar is survived by his wife, Henrietta "Hengie" Zurga; children Paula Ann Zurga and Edward J. Zurga, Jr. Oscar is the last survivor of 3 siblings, Matt Zurga, Mary (Zurga) Butko, and Ann (Zurga) Shanahan.
