Edward Martin Mufich, aged 96, beloved father and grandfather passed away Tuesday, November 24 in Bentonville, Arkansas. Edward was born in Kansas City, Kansas on August 22, 1924 and until 2019 continued to reside in Kansas City. Edward was preceded in death by his wife Cathryn and eleven siblings. He is survived by his daughter Lisa Buffkin and son in law Charlie Buffkin of Rogers, Arkansas, granddaughter Hayley Buffkin of Austin, Texas, grandson Ethan Buffkin, of Houston, Texas and brother Paul Mufich along with many nieces and nephews.
Edward, known as "Buttons", was one of thirteen children born to John and Mary Mufich. He took much pride in his Croatian ancestry and had strong ties to the Croatian community of Strawberry Hill and St. John the Baptist Church where he was a lifelong member. Edward served in the Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He was employed at H&M Music Company and eventually opened his own business, American Music Company. After his retirement he could usually be found assisting his brother Harry at his fruit stand on "the hill". Edward was a huge sports fan devoted to the KC Royals, KC Chiefs and KU Jayhawks. Even at the age of 96 he could rattle off statistics of all three teams and rarely missed a televised game.
Edward moved to Bentonville Arkansas in February 2019 to be closer to his daughter and son in law. He acclimated better than anyone could have expected to his new environment and was thriving in his new home until contracting Covid 19 in late September which contributed to his rapid health decline.
Edward held a special place in his heart for young children so in lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, December 3rd at 10:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic, 708 N. 4th Kansas City, Ks. Private Burial at Leavenworth National.
