Edmund J. Michalski Sr., age 92 of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away peacefully at Providence Medical Center surrounded by his daughters on Saturday, March 23, 2024. Edmund was born in Kansas City, Mo. and was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church in KCKS. Attending ST. Joseph School and De La Sale High School. Edmund married Dorothy (Duma), his partner for 67 years, at ST. Joseph’s Church, while on leave from the US Army, before being deployed to a Pacific Islands. He served as a Corporal on the Marshall Islands on Enewetak and Bikini Atoll during the development and testing of the hydrogen bomb, he was present and witnessed the test explosion there, thus being a part of what is now known as an Atomic Veteran. Edmund worked for Massey Ferguson farm machinery company for his entire career starting there before the 1951 flood, and returning after his stint in the military, lasting 31 years. Edmund was always telling jokes, and never met a stranger. He worked many years helping with and running the Polish Golf Tournament. He enjoyed golfing with all his buddies weekly, as they called themselves the Polish Army. One of his favorite days was Polski Day, which he helped with for years.
Edmund was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Barbara Michalski, his wife Dorothy, brother Walt and sisters Jeanette and Stella. He leaves behind his three children; son Edmund Jr and wife Melojane, daughters Debi Becker and Kathleen Myers. Grandchildren; Aaron Michalski, Michelle Samar and husband Lyes, Monica Torres and husband Joshua, Melanie Regala, Symon Regala and wife Rodelyn, Ray Regala, Leslie Coffman and husband Quentin, Kelly Becker, Stephanie Becker, Adam Becker, and Zack Myers. Great-grandchildren; Sophia and Gabriel Samar, Logan and Sydney Coffman, Lincoln and Troy Becker, and Zayden Becker.
Edmund was much loved father, grandfather and great grandfather and a wonderful family patriarch. He will be missed greatly by so many.
Services in Edmund's honor will take place on April 3rd, 2024 at All Saint's Catholic Church, 811 Vermont Ave, Kansas City, KS 66101, beginning with a Visitation at 9:00am - 10:00am, with a funeral mass to directly follow. After mass, Edmund will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1150 N 38th St, Kansas City, KS 66102.
