Dorothy L. Weller, 89 was called to her eternal home in heaven on 12/18/22. She passed peacefully at Shawnee Hills Independent Living in Shawnee, KS. with her children by her side.
Dorothy was born January 30, 1933 in Kansas City, Ks to Alexander and Mary Martel. She worked as a statistical typist for many years. She married the love of her life, Vernon Weller. They were married 63 years saying that her secret to a successful marriage is to “Compromise. Don’t give up because tomorrow might be better than yesterday.”
She enjoyed traveling every year to Germany and Austria with her husband. They walked the mountains, swang on adult swings, dining, enjoyed their ‘wine time’ and especially just spending time together. You could always find them Saturday nights at the Savoy Grill in their special booth of 40 years.
She was a long time parishioner of St. Mary/St. Anthony Catholic Church in K C Ks. She loved attending church, praying several rosaries a day, among all her other prayers and novenas. She had her favorite saints, especially St. Therese of the Child Jesus and loved the Sacred Heart deeply.
She loved to tell jokes she remembered from her father to everyone. She loved to make people laugh. She loved Christmas tree hunting with all the family and her favorite song was “Silent Night.”
She was a loving and nurturing mother of four children, Debbie Thomas (husband, John), Cindy Wittman (husband, David), ,Vernon, Jr. (wife, Loretta) and Tom (wife, Joan). She had 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren loving each one dearly. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years as well as her other 9 siblings.
Dorothy will be remembered for her legacy of deep faith and endless prayer. She loved unconditionally and without judgment . Her wisdom was inspiring and we always learned from her.
Beautiful Mother, you will be greatly missed by all and we thank you for guiding us, inspiring us and letting us know that internal peace and following God is everything.
Enjoy heaven and your husband is once again with his ‘beautiful bride’.
