Donna J. Hayes

Donna J. Hayes, 87, Overland Park, KS, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2024 at her home. There will be a Visitation at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 10th, 2024 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Mission, KS; burial at Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.

Donna was born in Kansas City, MO and was a lifelong area resident. She grew up in the grocery business where her father was a butcher and owner of a grocery store in the East Bottoms, Monteil’s Market. She worked at the family store as a cashier and later as a manager at the Monteil’s Market in Overland Park which was owned by her Uncle, Arthur Monteil. She was a long-time member of St. Agnes Catholic Church where her children attended grade school, later attended Cure of Ars and eventually landed at St. Pius X. She was active in the Booster Club and Mother’s Club at Bishop Miege High School where all her children and grandchildren attended high school. Her greatest joys were anything to do with her grandchildren - she rarely missed an event; family weekends at The Lake of The Ozarks, watching KU basketball and Kansas City Chiefs football games; and traveling to various states making sure to visit casinos along the way.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Sr & Nadine Monteil, husband Robert Crews, husband Jerry Hayes, brother Louis Monteil Jr and great-grandson Noah Crews.

She is survived by her four children: son Mike Crews (Elizabeth); son Jim Crews (Kathy); daughter Cathy McConniff (Joe); daughter Terry Orrick (Tom); step-daughter Shelly King; step-daughter Stacey McClure; brother Bill Monteil, six grandchildren - Tommy Orrick, Michelle Portilla (Guillermo), Nicole Thiede (Josh), Bob Crews (Libby), Brett McConniff (Abbey), Emily McConniff (Zach); five great-grandchildren – Anthony Portilla, Damon Portilla, Elena Portilla, Emmett Crews, Annie Crews; four nieces and nephews – Mike Monteil, Beth Knight (Justin), Sue Stewart (Brent), Cindy Ross and seven great-nieces and great-nephews
