Charles “Jake” Sutulovich, age 95, of Kansas City, KS died November 23, 2022, with family by his

side. Services will be Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church

where he was a lifelong member. Visitation will be from 9-10 AM followed by a Mass of

Christian burial. Luncheon will be served for all guests following the Mass in the gymnasium

upstairs from St. John’s Club. Graveside services for the immediate family only will be held at

Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Jake’s early career was in construction. He was an army veteran of WW II, where he was a Light

Tank Crewman. He was later employed at the Wyandotte County Court House in the County

Clerk’s Office until he retired at the age of 75.

Jake never married. While he was working, he could be found spending his evenings

bartending at St. John’s Club. Once he retired, he and his buddies could be found at the Corner

Café where he had his own special pot of coffee. One of his favorite waitresses, Susan, would

wrap a towel around the handle so everyone would know not to mess with his pot of coffee.

Sometimes he and his buddies would change it up and go to the Village Inn in Mission, KS. No

matter where they went, everyone knew Jake’s name! Later he could be found bartending at

the club from the time he opened it, until he closed it later that evening. He was well known

and loved by many patrons of all ages of the club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph & Kata Sutulovich and 8 sisters: Mary Delich,

Katherine Camlic, Anastasia Sutulovich, Helen Roper, Louise Lombardino, Barbara Petelin, Rose

Weitzel and Bernice Gergick and 3 brothers: John Sutulovich, Joseph Sutulovich, Jr., William

Sutulovich and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and

nephews and great-great-great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests

donations to St. John the Baptist Church, Strawberry Hill Museum & Ethnic Cultural Center, St.

John’s Men’s Club or Ascend Hospice of Overland Park, KS.
