Catherine A. Podrebarac, 98, lifelong Kansas City, Kansas, resident, died on July 19, 2022. Visitation will begin with the Rosary at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26th, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow directly after the funeral at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas.
Catherine, or Katie as many knew her, was born on November 28, 1923, to Joseph and Rose (Resjan) Podrebarac at the home in Kansas City, Kansas, the fifth child in a family of seven siblings. After attending St. John the Baptist grade school, she graduated from Bishop Ward High School in 1942. Immediately after graduation, Catherine began working in the office at the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers, where she retired almost 42 years later. She was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish, attending daily Mass and volunteering at the Church until she was no longer able to do so, although she continued to pray the Rosary daily.
Dedicated and loyal to her family, Catherine became a caretaker to her parents and cared for her sisters too. As the only driver in the household, after retiring, Catherine was often chauffeuring people to appointments or running errands for them. She also loved animals, providing a great home for numerous household cats and dogs over the years and even caring for injured wildlife.
She enjoyed working in the garden and never took herself too seriously. Never at a loss for words, Catherine truly loved visiting with friends and family. Those who knew her well, however, also knew not to phone or visit during a Kansas City Chiefs game or a KU Basketball game!
She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Joseph Podrebarac, Diane Bozich, Frances Podrebarac, Angeline Podrebarac, and David Podrebarac. She is survived by her brother, Eugene Podrebarac, sister-in-law, Rosalie Podrebarac, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Whether you knew her as Catherine or Katie, you had the pleasure of knowing a delightful sister, aunt, cousin, or friend!
