Carol Ann Lutjemeier Janes-Baker, 77, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on January 28, 2026, surrounded by love. Carol Ann was born on September 16, 1948, in Marysville, Kansas, to Marvin and Delores (Wilson) Lutjemeier. She dedicated 35 years of her professional life to the State of Kansas, where she served as an Intake Supervisor for the Criminal Department. Her work was marked by diligence, compassion, and a deep sense of responsibility. Earlier in her career, she worked for the American Hereford Association, a role she took pride in and spoke of fondly.
Beyond her career, she wore many hats, the most important being that of a devoted mother and “Meme”. She spent her life caring for her children with strength, patience, and unconditional love, always putting family first. Those who knew her will remember her loving, independence, steady presence, strong work ethic, and her quiet generosity.
Carol found joy in spending time with friends at the American Legion, playing darts, watching sports, and decorating for every holiday and birthday—especially Christmas. She was a collector of many things, with Hallmark ornaments being what she cherished most, both for herself and as thoughtful gifts made special for life’s meaningful moments. She had a gift for turning the simplest materials into treasured creations, whether sewing for her granddaughters’ nurseries, creating cardboard dollhouses, or making shadow and printer boxes. She also shared a special love of American Girl dolls with her granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Bonnie Lawrence; and her husband, Dennis Baker. She is survived by her son, Brian Janes (Katie), and granddaughters Kyra and Isabel Janes; her daughter, Anna Jordan (Chris), and granddaughters Brianna, Samariah, Sophia, and Santanna Jordan. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Tiffany Springs Rehabilitation & Health Care Center and Monarch Hospice. A Celebration of Life (open house) will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 12:00–4:00 p.m. at St. John’s Bowling Alley, 414 Barnett, Kansas City, KS 66101. Memorial contributions may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
