CARLOS R. LOPEZ 1936 - 2015 Carlos R. Lopez, 79, Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2015 at his nursing home in Overland Park, Kansas. Carlos was born in La Barca, Jalisco, Mexico on January 10, 1936. In his youth, he enjoyed many outdoor activities, including cycling, swimming, and diving. After working for several years at the local post office, Carlos moved to Chicago in 1958, in search of the "American Dream." There, he found gainful employment and met and married the love of his life, Guadalupe (Lupe) Coronado in 1960. Later, they moved to Kansas City and raised nine children. Carlos was a devout Catholic and over the years actively volunteered along with his wife at church functions and participated in social organizations, including the Union Cultural Mexicana, where he served as President. Carlos worked as a machinist at Swift-Eckrich for more than 30 years. He was a dedicated worker with a perfect attendance record, and often volunteered to work extra shifts to support his family. Prior to his accident in 2010, Carlos enjoyed retirement, especially traveling and tending to his lawn and his hedges. He loved the outdoors and continued to ride his bike and take walks with his wife throughout their neighborhood. He loved spending time and watching sports-especially the Jayhawks, the Royals, and the Chiefs-with his children and grandchildren. Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, Lorenzo and Carmen (Rodriguez) Lopez, his brother, Victor Manuel, and two infant brothers. He is survived by his wife Lupe Lopez, and his children, Carlos and Irene (Diaz) Lopez, Lorenzo and Melissa (Cook) Lopez, Lupe Clouse and husband Greg, Jorge Lopez, Jo Sitek and husband Robert, Rose Shaw and husband John, Yolanda Chamberlin and husband John, Robert and Janine (Estrada) Lopez, and Louis Lopez. Carlos also had 22 grandchildren, nine great- grandchildren, one brother, four sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday, January 31, 9 to 11 am, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8510 Wornall, Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial immediately following. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, Kansas following the mass. Donations may be made to Sisters Servants of Mary, 800 N. 18 Street, KC, KS 66102-4291.
