Bernice Kovac

Bernice (Nastav) Kovac, 95 of Strawberry Hill, in Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2022. Funeral Services for Bernice are Friday, May 20th, beginning with a Visitation at 8:30AM, Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 708 N. 4th, KCKS., with burial following at Mt. Calvary, KCKS. Memorials may be made to St. Johns Endowment Fund, St. Johns Club or Appl Orchard Hospice, 7730 Hedge Lane, Shawnee, KS.

Bernice was born February 16, 1927 to George and Vera (Secan) Nastav in Kansas City, KS. She was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church all her life and was the Neighborhood Mom on Thompson Ave. Bernice worked a couple jobs away from the home but being a Mother and making sure everyone was taken care of was her Number One priority. She never knew a stranger, she talked to everyone and anyone and made each of them feel wonderful, always by calling them sweet or sweetie. She walked every where, knew the bus times so she could get her shopping done overtown and make it back to cook her husband, John dinner with moments to spare. Bernice loved animals and they loved her, they would hover aound the yard waiting for their Sweetie to come outside to take care of them. Her favorite thing to do was going out to dinner, where she made sure everyone had enough and also left plenty room for dessert. She loved watching the Royals and Chiefs, especially her Patrick Mahomes. Bernice would love to have Christmas all year round, if she could leave her christmas tree up all year should would, except on the 4th of July she was very patriotic and loved her country.

Surviving Bernice are her children; John Micheal Kovac, Bertha Kovac, Teresa Kovac, Greg Kovac and Bernadette (Mark) Tomasic. Grandson Jesse Kovac and many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents, husband John A. Kovac and two sisters; Veronica Nastav and Helen McDonald.
