Barbara Hausback

March 29, 1948 — December 5, 2017

Barbara (Barb) Ann Antoinette (Gurera) Hausback (69) of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, while surrounded by her loved ones on December 5, 2017 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
Barb was born on March 29, 1948, to Charles Gurera and Barbara (Calovich/Gurera) Lunday in Kansas City, Kansas. She was an alumni of Blessed Sacrament grade school and Bishop Ward high school and attended Pittsburgh State University and became a registered nurse after graduating from Kansas City Kansas Community College. Barb also made many friendships and memories during her nineteen year employment at The Woodlands Race Track.
Barb married her beloved Edward (Ed) Hausback on June 11, 1977. God blessed them with their daughter Alyson (Hausback) Menjares. Barb was a strong matriarch and pillar of her family, and a devoted wife, mother, and nana. She was also proud of her Croatian and Italian heritage, and she loved to make her infamous sarma, and homemade sugu and meatballs for her family and friends. Barb always had the perfect purse and right amount of cheetah print to go with her ensemble.
A devout Catholic, she was deeply involved in parish life, she served on the school board at St. Patricks School, and served on the Reunion Committee for the Bishop Ward Class of 1966.
Barb also loved her Dotte! She always demonstrated her compassion and warmth even in moments of small talk with strangers. She was always there praying for those in need, and they would find healing and comfort.
Her faith was always present in the good times and it carried her through the difficult times. Barb was a strong advocate and supporter of breast cancer survivors and awareness. She wore her pink ribbon proudly.
Barb is survived by her husband Ed, her daughter Alyson and son-in-law Michael Menjares, and her precious granddaughter, Annabelle (Cupcake), and Katie Calovich, and many nieces and nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts, friends, neighbors, and Facebook friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Barbara Lunday and Charles Gurera, stepfather Bill Lunday, uncle John (Goggie) Calovich and his wife Frances, uncle Dr. Emery Calovich and his wife Sheila, uncle Frank (Pebby) Calovich, aunt Rose (Honey) Calovich-Golder, uncle Bob Calovich and his wife Edith, nephew Danny (D-Boy) Hausback, brother-in-law Brian Hausback, father-in-law Frank Hausback and mother-in-law Rosemary Hausback.
Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m., on Monday, December 11, 2017, at St. Patricks Catholic Church, 1086 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112. The Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m. and Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m, followed by burial at the Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Parallel Pkwy & N 126th St, Kansas City, KS 66109.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to an educational fund in care of Annabelle Menjares, at any local Security Bank of Kansas City branch.
The family of Barb would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the telemetry floor staff of Overland Park Regional Medical Center, and especially Dr. Hector Rodriguez for continuous support and care.
Barb lived her life for God, her family, and her friends. May her love for others continue on in the memories of those she blessed with her life.
