Barbara 'Barb' Palcher

November 2, 1947 — August 9, 2021

Barbara Palcher was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She passed away peacefully at home on August 9, 2021, at age 73 after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born in Kansas City, Kansas on November 2, 1947, to Joseph and Louise Grosko. Growing up in the Strawberry Hill neighborhood, she attended St. John the Baptist elementary school and then Bishop Ward High School graduating in 1965.
She met her husband Dave on a blind date a few years later and they married at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on June 7, 1969. They recently celebrated 52 years of marriage.
Barb worked as an Administrative Assistant to many judges at the Wyandotte County Courthouse for 35 years retiring in 2011. She made many lifelong friends during her long and successful career.
Barb loved life and spending time with family and friends. She loved to bake and shared that passion with her grandchildren who spent many a Saturday morning in the kitchen "helping" her. She could often be seen in the bleachers watching her grandchildren as they participated in various sports and other activities. Her love for the written word was second to none. When she wasnt with family or friends, she loved reading, mostly fiction but her library was vast and diverse from faith inspired devotionals to fast-paced novels penned by James Patterson. Sitting at the kitchen table, Barb completed every crossword puzzle that she could get her hands on from the puzzle in the local daily newspaper to the ones in the New York Times. She lived her faith and was active in her church parish as a lector, a regular volunteer at the St. John the Baptist annual social, and St. Marys food kitchen. Anyone that met Barb would certainly agree that she loved to talk. She never met a person that she didnt share a story with or brag about her children or grandchildren to, even if it was the clerk at a store or a server at a restaurant whom she had never met.
She is survived by her husband Dave Palcher, her children Brian Palcher and Jenny Yankovich and Jennys husband Tony and their children Katie, Ryan, Brett, and Macy; brother Dave Grosko (wife Sue); sister Mary Friedl (husband Dave); and many nieces and nephews.
Barb will be remembered with a visitation at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church located at 7023 West 71st Street, Overland Park, KS 66204 on Thursday, August 12, 2021, from 9:30-11:00 a.m. followed by a celebration of life mass at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to John Paul II Catholic School, Strawberry Hill Museum & Cultural Center, or Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care (www.kchospice.org)
